How to Check Your 2025 KCSE Results: SMS, Portal, and What You Need to Know

How to Check Your 2025 KCSE Results: SMS, Portal, and What You Need to Know

The 2025 KCSE results are being released today by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba. Here's everything you need to know about checking your results quickly and reliably.

Method 1: Check via SMS (KES 25)

The fastest way to get your results is through the official SMS service:

  1. Open your messaging app

  2. Type your index number followed by the word KCSE (example: 12345678 KCSE)

  3. Send to 20076

  4. You'll receive your results within minutes

Cost: KES 25 per query

Works on: Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom networks

Note: Make sure you have sufficient airtime before sending

Method 2: Check Online via KNEC Portal (Free)

For a detailed breakdown of your performance:

  1. Visit results.knec.ac.ke

  2. Click on "KCSE Results"

  3. Enter your index number and exam year (2025)

  4. Click Submit to view and download your results

Important: The portal typically experiences heavy traffic immediately after results are released. If you encounter errors or slow loading, try:

  • Refreshing the page after a few minutes

  • Checking during off-peak hours (late evening)

  • Using the SMS method if you need results urgently

Method 3: Collect Physical Result Slip

Candidates can also visit their examination centers or school to collect official printed result slips. Bring your identification for verification.

New Policy Change: The Ministry has announced that final certificates will eventually be collected from sub-county education offices rather than schools, eliminating delays previously caused by outstanding school fees.

What Your Results Include

Your provisional results will show:

  • Grades for each subject

  • Overall mean grade

  • Points scored

What to Do After Checking

  1. Screenshot or print your results for your records

  2. Verify all information is correct (names, index number, grades)

  3. Check KUCCPS placement portal when university placement opens

  4. Contact KNEC immediately if you notice any errors in your results

If You Experience Issues

  • SMS not working? Confirm you typed your index number correctly with no spaces

  • Portal timing out? Wait 30 minutes and try again during lower traffic periods

  • Results look wrong? Schools will receive official result slips you can verify against

Stay Alert for Scams

Only use the official channels listed above. Avoid:

  • Unofficial websites claiming to have results

  • SMS services to numbers other than 20076

  • Anyone asking for payment to "release" your results early

Results are released simultaneously to all candidates—there's no way to access them early through unofficial channels.

Good luck to all 2025 KCSE candidates!
